CharPad Glaze C64

A Windows desktop tool for generating "parallax-able" map data for Commodore 64 games and demos.

The program combines two existing CharPad projects and generates the character sets and maps you need to successfully produce the parallax scrolling effect.

Supports horizontal and vertical scrollers.

The visualizer allows demos to be played back using a variety of user settings.

Notes...

  • Portable apps, run on Windows or Mac/Linux using ie. WINE/Crossover.
  • Includes 3 executables,  Win32, Win64 and .NET builds.

Install instructions

This software is portable, it requires no installation, you just need to unzip the package to a location on your computer and run the executable from this location or create a shortcut to the executable on your desktop.

The 1.60 releases have been fixed and re-uploaded (June 20, 2026).
The file exports were permanently disabled in the Win32 and Win64 executables.

Made freeware on June 19, 2026.

The version number has been rewound to 1.60 from 3.80 to detach it from CharPad Pro's current version and better indicate its real number of evolutionary steps (everything works well, there is not much to add really).

In truth though, parallaxing is quite a tricky technique and no example (65xx) source code or demos have ever been provided, I have some pretty good working code and will be including it in the next release.
